About lensOS
Linux desktops can be powerful, but they rarely feel beautiful. lensOS sets out to make an Arch-based desktop that's both, and that a newcomer can install in ten minutes.
lensOS uses Arch Linux's official repositories and the AUR directly: no fork, no delayed mirrors. On top it adds a small set of its own packages: lens, a package manager built on pacman's engine; linux-lens, Arch's kernel with the BORE scheduler; a graphical installer that handles dual boot, encryption and drivers; and the lensOS look.
lensOS is meant to be light and beautiful at once. Its desktop is Openbox, set up with a bar, a dock, frosted glass and one theme for everything, in under 800 MB of memory. Hyprland and tiling window managers may follow, sharing the same tools and themes.
What we believe
- Good design is part of the product
- A desktop you enjoy looking at is one you enjoy using. Polish isn't decoration on top.
- Built in the open
- Every config, theme, package recipe and build script is public. No paid tier, no hidden parts.
- Arch underneath, safety on top
- Arch gives fresh packages and the AUR. lensOS adds a testing channel, news checks and a snapshot before every update.
- Yours to shape
- Fork it, theme it, file issues, send patches. Derivatives are welcome.
