The first lensOS ISO boots

The first lensOS ISO exists. It’s built from the lensOS repository with archiso, and it boots into a KDE Plasma live session on both UEFI and legacy BIOS machines.

What’s in it

  • Arch underneath: packages straight from the official Arch repositories, plus the first two lensOS packages: lensos-settings and lensos-mirrorlist
  • KDE Plasma 6 on Wayland, logging straight into a live session
  • lensOS identity: the system calls itself lensOS, with its own logo, boot menus, wallpaper and dark defaults
  • linux-zen as the kernel until linux-lens is ready
  • an install launcher on the desktop that runs archinstall for testers

This is not LensGlass yet. The desktop uses Breeze Dark with the lensOS wallpaper. The glass theme, blur and motion presets are phase 2 on the roadmap.

Why you can’t download it yet

Three things have to happen first:

  1. a signing key, so every lensOS package and ISO can be verified
  2. the package repo going live at packages.lensos.org
  3. automatic nightly builds, published to the download page every day

The build pipeline for that is already written. When the first nightly is published, the download page will list it.

The installer, for now

Until the graphical lensOS installer arrives (phase 5), the desktop launcher runs archinstall. It installs Arch Linux with KDE Plasma. lensOS’s own packages join installs once the repo is live.
