Preview: lensOS Phone

Meet Phone (Super + P): your iPhone or Android phone, on lensOS.

  • Messages: your conversations, and a box to answer them.
  • Calls: an incoming call pops up at the top of the screen with Answer, Decline or a quick text; you talk through the computer’s speakers and microphone, with mute and a keypad. Recent calls and a keypad to dial are a click away, and music pauses while it rings.
  • Notifications: what’s on your phone, with its own buttons, and new ones pop up like any other (and land in the notification sidebar).
  • Contacts with their photos, and what’s playing on the phone, with play, pause and skip.

It looks like Settings, frosted glass and all, and it costs nothing until you set up a phone.

No app on the phone

The computer talks to the phone like a car kit or a smartwatch does, over Bluetooth, which phones support out of the box. On an iPhone that brings one limit from Apple: texts show up from when the computer connects (no older ones), without photos or group chats.

Pairing

Open Phone: the first time, it walks you through pairing, step by step, for an iPhone or an Android phone (it’s in Settings → Phone too). The steps, and what to do if it doesn’t work, are on the Phone page.

A preview

Phone is brand new and being tried with real iPhones right now, so expect rough edges, and tell us how it goes.
